Props List

  • Cape

  • The cape prop is to make it clear to the audience of the vampire character, as capes such as the one pictured are synonymous with Vampire films, such as Dracula. The cape will be worn by our protagonist Steve

    •  Plastic Fangs
The plastic fangs will be worn by our vampire protagonist in our film, the fangs, much like the cape, signify the characters vampire status, and also add in comedy to our film trailer due it imparing his speech slightly, adding a lisp.

    • Face Paint
We would need face paint to help give the vampire character a pale complexion, which is needed for a vampire character. We will use glittery eyeliner as well to give the vampire a more effeminate look, as he is a "glampire"

    • Blonde Wig
We would need the blonde wig for a scene involving the vampire trying to bite someones neck, believing they are a girl, only to find it is actually a man in a wig. The bright wig shown in the picture is similar to those seen in various gothic and vampire films, so it will tie in nicely with our film.

    • Fake Blood
We will be using fake blood in our production, due to vampires needing to feed on blood, and is a key staple in vampire films.

    • Hair gel
We will be using hair gel for our main characters slicked back hair, done in a similar style to that of other similar vampire characters such as Dracula and Robert Pattinson.

    •  Ketchup
We will be using Ketchup in one of our scenes, using it as a prop as it is meant to confuse our Vampire into believing a girl has cut herself and is bleeding. Ketchups dark appearance and thick texture means that it can be easily used for our filming and be clearly visible in our trailer.

    Potential scene ideas

We brainstormed as a group and thought of different scenes that could potentially be funny for a young audience. We might not use all of these ideas but may shoot them and see how they turn out. We also need to think about the props used and how they could become quite expensive and the locations might be too hard to film from so theres a few things we need to think about before actually starting to film these scenes.
    • We had an idea of having Steve the vampire walking down a busy corridor in the school and lifting his hands up and parting them like Moses and the Red sea, and as he is walking through the 'walls' of people collapse and he is swarmed by students and looks to be helplessly drowning in people.
    • He sneaks through the window of what looks like a girl's bedroom, and creeps over to the 'girl' in the bed. As he goes to bite the person, they wake up and turn around, and it's actually a gay guy. The vampire then screams as the gay guy jumps on him.
    • Steve walks into a room and theres a girl with blood all round her mouth (ketchup), romantic music comes on as he stares at her. She then holds up a burger with ketchup on and says "want some?"
    • The vampire is lurking in a tree, reference to twilight, he then clumsily falls out and lands on a trampoline and bounces back up.
    • Steve eats Garlic Bread.
    • In the midst of a party, we see Steve led faced down on the floor, drunk.
    • A werewolf walks into the party with fluff and ears on him, everyone looks in shock, then two girls say, "he didn't get the memo" "It's not fancy dress", the werewolf then walks out sad and confused.
    • Steve has a really fat cat that has its own cape, shot of him holding the cat with its belly out.
    • Stood in the forest on a windy day, stood in a power stance, with his cape blowing in the wind. Cape blows round and hits him in the face.
    • Steve puts his hand in cauldron of sweets (see props) and hand  on cauldron grabs him. Steve then lets out a high pitched scream as he is so startled.
    • Steve sleeps in a small box like a coffin.

    Film Title

Glampire - This is the name that we like the best and the one we wanted to do originally. It go the most votes in our survey with 15 votes out of 62. We fused together the word 'Glam' and 'Vampire' to make the comical name 'Glampire'. It's catchy and easy to remember as it's just one word. It also expresses the genre well as the audience we be able to tell a lot from this title. Clearly its about a vampire who's 'glam' and is obviously not going to be a horror or action film. It's most likely going to be a spoof and this will be apparent to the audience just by the title and then backed up by the trailer.

Fangtasy - This is a play on the word 'Fantasy'. As the story is completely fiction, the word fantasy is appropriate. This was the second most popular with 13 votes. Again it's one word and memorable. The word 'Fang' is also well associated with vampires as they have fangs for teeth. This would again let the audience know that this is most likely going to be a film about vampires.

Don't Fang About- We really liked this one as it's a play on words for the phrase: 'Don't hang about'. This got 8 votes. We thought about using this as a slogan for the trailer: "Dont fang about, here's something you can really sink your teeth into!" We are therefore going to explore suitable slogans for the film with a vampire twist incorporated into them, we may therefore use some of the names we considered as titles as inspiration for our slogans.

The Only Vampire in the Village - The Only Vampire in the Village got 7.  This is a take on the 'Little Britain' catchphrase "The Only Gay in the Village". This is well known and for our young audience, is quite amusing. It is also in keeping with our theme of the vampire in our trailer being not gay but quite feminine and the fact that in our film, steve is the only vampire rather than being in what is known as a 'coven' in Twilight or a 'Brood' or 'Clan' in most vampire films.

Suck it to 'em - This is a play on the catchphrase 'Sock it to 'em' . It got 5 votes and again we are thinking of using this a slogan rather than an actually title. We changed the word 'Sock' for 'Suck' to make it relevent to our film genre as vampires are known for 'sucking' blood out of humans.

NosferTuTu - NosferaTuTu also got 5 votes. Nosferatu is the name of  a silent german film from 1922 which is based on the story of dracula but with the names and places changed. For example, the name vampire is changed to Nosferatu. A TuTu is a skirt made of netting that is stereotypically quite girly, this makes the name 'NosferaTuTu' quite funny.

Van Helsing-song - Abraham Van helsing was a Vampire Slayer in Bram Stoker's Dracula novel. We thought that this would be a nice idea if we had our movie as a Musical because it has the words sing-song in it.

The Vampire Gayer - This is a mick take of the phrase 'The Vampire Slayer' which was also a popular TV show in 1997 to 2003 named 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. We changed the word slay to gay to make it comical for the audience however we felt that perhaps it was a little to 'in-your-face'.

Cup-a-Blood - This is a twist of the warm drink 'Cup-a-Soup' but we repleaced soup for blodo to make it vampire related. We liked this one but not as much as some of the others, it wasn't quite as memorable.

Vampiracy - Vampire is obviously made up of the two words 'Vampire' and 'Piracy'. Piracy is copying other forms of media, like films and music. This would be appropriate as because our film is a spoof, we will be taking bits from other vampire films. It is also one word so it's quite catchy.

    Film Title Survey

When deciding on a film title which best fits our story line, we conducted a survey on 60, 16-22 year olds, we asked them when faced with a list of possible film titles which from the list would they be more attracted to go to the cinema and watch. We gave them a short parargraph of what our film entailed and its main character representations disscussed, we then asked them tick which film they found most attractive and relevant to our film.
The resuls of our survey are shown below:
As you can see from the results in the chart above our target audience chose the film name 'Glampire' as a more attractive film title and one that fitted our genre.Although we see this title as a possibility we are still however going to disscuss as a group which title to choose taking into account comments from our target audience.

    Film Synopsis

A young (actually hundreds of years old) vampire joins college, but finds it hard to fit in, except for a few close geeky friends. When he is mocked by most of his college for his appearance and his odd behaviour, the vampire attempts to win them all over by trying to change his appearance and behaviour, resulting in the college believing him to be ‘gay’. After meeting a girl at the school who shows hardly any interest in him, the vampire tries to win her over, only to find out she is already in a relationship, who is discovered to also be a vampire. The vampire then has to face what life is like at college, with relationship problems, getting drunk, and growing up.

    Film Production Company

Due to the genre of our film, we have decided that our film would be produced by the company "Dimension Films".  The studio, famous for producing many major horror films and franchises, such as the "Scream" franchise, "Scary Movie" franchise, and various films in the "Halloween" franchise.

Dimension Films is owned by The Weinstein Company. After the Weinstein Brothers left Miramax, they took with them Dimension films, to continue releasing specific genre films. The company, previously a subsidiary of Miramax, which in itself is a subsidiary of Walt Disney, has built up a solid reputation as a comedy and Horror film company.

For the release of our film, we have decided that the film would be released in multiplexes during summer time, released possibly early summer. Our reasoning for this is that at this our target audience, teenagers and young adults, would not be in education at the time, due to schools, colleges and universities finishing for the summer holidays, meaning that we would have more people coming to see our film. When looking at previous Dimension film's releases, most of their films have been released over the summer period and into the winter season, due to those being the peak times of the year that moviegoers will go to the cinema. This time of year is also when most blockbuster films are released.
For the release of the trailer for our film, we feel that our trailer would be shown before similar films, aimed at a similar audience. This would increase both knowledge and interest in the film, and bring in more people from our target audience to see our film. Our trailer would be shown internationally, due to the themes of the trailer and the film being international.

Film Logos altering to fit genres

We are thinking about altering about original logo and changing it slightly so that it is more suitable for a horror. This is apparent in the Batman film, Batman:The Dark Knight where they change the well known logo of the huge film making company "Warner Bros" to make it darker. The whole film was quite dark, and showed a few very violent scenes, this was quite surprising for a DC comics film which used ot be all about the heroes saving the day and bright costumes, etc. The Dark Knight shows none of this, it is a very dark film, mianly due to the horrific villian, The Joker, who was voted the second best villain ever by IGN Comic books, after X-men's Magneto. Although Batman has always been a dark character even when he was part of the Justice League, Christian Bale shows even more of his negative side by displaying all of his flaws and his love for Rachael Dawes.
In using a slightly alterated logo, Warner Bros manages to substain the eerie atmosphere throughout the trailer, this is also shown in the 'Legendary Pictures' logo and the logo for 'DC Comics'.

The movie poster for Batman: The Dark Knight

This is the original Wanrner Bros Logo for comparison.

The Warner Bros logo in the Batman trailer

The DC comics logo in the Batman trailer

Another technique that is used in these logos are the blue flames in the background, this is in keeping with Warner Bros blue background in their normal logo and does slightly resemble the clouds. The flames give us a sense of danger but the blue tint makes it seem unnatural, perhaps resembling Batman himself. Batman is seen as a light, a symbol of hope for the people of Gotham City.  However he is unlike the average superhero is the the sense that he isn't light at all, perhaps why he is known as the 'Dark Knight'.

This concept is also true for the massive blockbuster Harry Potter, the films become darker and darker as the go on and the film logos follow this.

Still from the trailer of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

The Warner Bros logo in the Harry Potter Trailer

We hope to take inspiration from this when designing our own logo, it's a good way of keeping to the genre without changing the identity of the company and losing existing fans of the film company when they watch the trailers and don't realise that it is the same logo and film company.

    Vampire/Comedy Films

Below are a list of films that follow the spoof genre. These films involve the horror of vampires but with comic relief. We are going to look at clips of these films and take inspiration from them for our movie trailer. This will give us a general idea of the genre and what is expected from the film. We can also look at forums and chat rooms that discuss the films to see what fans thought of the films and what they didn't like. We can take these views into consideration when making our movie trailer.

    Location Ideas

    1. Around School, Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School
The school was built in 1912 and so has an old fashioned look to it, we are hoping to incorporate this old fashioned feel into our movie trailer as it relates to how old the first dracula was. This location is also very easily accessible to film at due to it being our school, and we would not need permission to film here.

    2. Around the Streets, Crawshawbooth, Baxenden, Burnley

We would be able to use surrounding streets both near our homes and in local towns, as these locations are easily accessible for all members, and we would easily be able to film various scenes if necessary. Due to these areas being easily accessible, we would be able to get our friends in to act as extras easily.

    3. Fields
We wanted to use a mixture of woods and fields to create a rural setting, to contrast with the school and hall.

    4. Townley Hall
Townley Hall is in Burnley, it's quite old fashioned looking, and was built in the later early 1500's. It's age and look mean that this filming location would tie in well with the Vampire genre. and the grounds as well as the building would be suitable for filming on although we'd probably have to get permission.

    5. Gawthorpe Hall

Gawthorpe Hall is just outside of Burnley, much like Townley Hall, it is an old fashioned with majestic gardens surrounding it. Gawthorpe, like Towneley would work well with our genre, due to the building looking similar to those used in various vampire films. Again we would have to get filming permission from the owners first.

    6. Our Houses
Our houses are obviously easy to film from because we wouldn't need permission. It would also give a sense of reality to the film as our houses are clearly lived in and would look like real bedrooms. As our main character does not live in a stereotypical manor/castle, we feel that just an average home where the vampire lives would add to the comedy of the trailer.
